Marcelo H. del Pilar
Born: August 30, 1850
Died: July 4, 1896

He established the newspaper Diaryong Tagalog and in Spain he became the editor of La Solidaridad founded by Graciano Lopez Jaena. His newspapers criticised the way the Spaniards ran the colonial government and treated its people and his articles were based on the theme of liberty and equality for Filipinos. Tagalog copies were smuggled into the Philippines and read by revolutionists. He died of tuberculosis in Barcelona, a pauper, away from his family.
